Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to development of dental hygiene product with Formitopsis pinicola fmiting body extracts.

Methods: The methanol extract Formitopsis pinicola (Fp-FM) were evaporated and dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide by 100 mglml. Antimicrobial activity was canied out short-term exposure studies with S. mutans (ATCC 25175), S. sanguis (ATCC 10556), A. viscoccus (ATCC 15987), &: albicans (ATCC 1023 1).

Results: The Fp-FM was showing MICs ranging from 0.025 mglml against S. sanguis, 0.067 mglml against S. mutans, 1.0 mglml against C. albicans, and 2.0 mglml against A. viscosus, respectively. 5- minute exposure of S. mutans, S. sanguis, A. viscoccus, and C. albicans to Fp-FM (100 mglml) resulted in a substantial delay at 2-16h in growth of oral microorganisms. Fp-FM exhibited potent antimicrobial activity against all of the studied microorganisms. Fp-FMAI was highest antibacterial activity against oral microorganisms and it was suggested low molecular peptide and may be a valuable antimicrobial agent to prevent dental caries.

Conclusion: The methanol extract from Formitopsis pinicola could be a useful for reducing some oral microorganisms for development of dental hygiene product.
